Party for the Planet* at Zoo Miami on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can discover various ways to support the environment through conservation-themed activities designed for the whole family! Meet eco-minded community partners and enjoy giveaways, animal meet & greets, and more! Additionally, enjoy fun enrichment activities for our animals, featuring items crafted in our Animal Fun Factory from recycled and natural materials.
Guests can come in FREE of charge when they turn in a cellphone** as part of our ECO-CELL phone recycling program. These donated cell phones will help gorillas by hopefully reducing the need for coltan – a mineral extracted in the deep forests of Congo in Central Africa, home to the world’s endangered lowland gorillas. Fueled by the worldwide cell phone boom, Congo’s out-of-control coltan mining business has in recent years led to a dramatic reduction of animal habitat and the rampant slaughter of great apes for the illegal bush-meat trade.
Activities:
Flower Fiesta! 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Party like a plant-osaurus at Dr. Heredia’s Dino Research Center during our Prehistoric Plant Party! Get ready to grow your garden with our fun flower festivities, including planting your very own wildflowers using Zoo Miami’s famous Zoo Doo! (While supplies last)
Elephants: Ecosystem Engineers 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Stop by our Asian Elephant habitat during Party for the Planet and discover how elephants help shape their environment! From digging watering holes to spreading seeds with their dung (yep, you read that right!), these gentle giants play a huge role in keeping ecosystems healthy. Check out cool biofacts and learn why protecting elephants is also a way to help protect our planet.
Flutter Fest 12 p.m. & 3 p.m.
Did you know Zoo Miami is at the forefront of reintroducing endangered butterflies right here in South Florida? Come to Dr. Heredia’s Research Center to be a part of this enchanting experience as we see these precious pollinators take flight, marking a hopeful step in preserving our planet’s vibrant ecosystem. It’s a flutter-ful celebration that’s perfect for the whole family—don’t miss your chance to witness this heartwarming moment of conservation in action!
